Eng 9 Feb 12 Update

Today was a work day. Students worked on the following tasks for most of the period. We will continue working on these tasks Tues Feb 13 and Wed Feb 14. Once all these tasks are completed, students should be prepared to start working on the expository essay assignment, poetry reflection report, and short story report. We will start working on the next stage (preparing stage) next week for all these assignments.

Eng 9 Feb 9 Update

  1. Today was conference day. I met with each student who attended (and who followed instructions to sign up) to go over homework, quizzes, and other work. What this means is that, starting Monday, the level of expectation will rise to the level required all term. Homework is due every Friday that there is school on Friday. There is a quiz every Monday that there is school on Monday. We study for the quiz on the Friday before. I will post the homework on Saturdays. I will post the quiz study guide on Saturdays. I will also print these out and have a file in-class for students who prefer a printed copy instead of accessing the website.
  2. The next conference day will be on Monday Feb. 12th. At this conference, we will focus on the correct format for all assignments and after the conference you must use the correct format or redo the assignment. (This is on a going forward basis -meaning you won’t have to redo work from weeks 1-2 of the course.) We will review expectations at this conference. And missing assignments will be due Tuesday Feb. 13th. If assignments are missing after Feb 13th, expect a notice of “Insufficient Evidence” to be emailed home, letting your parents/guardians know that you are not meeting the minimal requirements for the course.
  3. During conferences, students read “The Outsiders” to chapter 2 (page 18), read “A Good Man” (entire story), and read their YA romance novel. If you have not read to page 18 of “The Outsiders” or read “A Good Man” you are required to read these. Please meet with me to set up a plan to catch up.
  4. I will post the quiz on Saturday.
  5. There is no new homework next week because there is no school on Friday.
  6. English 9 (3) finished HW#3 during class today. If you were absent today (for period 3 Eng 9) you will need to finish HW#3 and turn it in completed.

Eng 9 (2) Feb 8 Update

  1. We discussed the themes of the course and took notes on what we did (describe) and themes (connect).
  2. We viewed the film “All Is True”. This is part of the Wondering Stage of your essays for later in the term. The make up for the film is Monday Feb 12 after school. Be sure to schedule a make up if you missed the film.
  3. We started the Learning Story, which will be part of the Mid Term Exam week.
